Air bubble roll absorbs knocks and vibration. It works best when the item cannot move, so the goal is a snug, cushioned fit rather than just "lots of wrap".
When to use bubble roll
- Glassware, ceramics and decor
- Electronics, appliances and accessories
- Machine parts and finished surfaces that scratch easily
- Void fill around items in a larger carton
How to wrap an item
- Cut a piece large enough to go around the item with some overlap.
- Place the item at one edge and roll it up. Bubble side towards the item is a common practice.
- Cover corners and edges, which take most of the impact.
- Secure the wrap with packing tape. Do not stick tape on the item itself.
- Use more layers for very fragile items, and wrap multiple items separately.
Pack the carton
- Choose a carton with room for the wrap, not much more. Our measuring guide explains how.
- Put a layer of cushioning on the bottom and top.
- Keep a gap between the item and the carton walls and fill it so nothing shifts.
- Place heavy items at the bottom and light items on top.
- Shake the closed carton gently. If you feel movement, add more fill.
Very fragile?Use a box-in-box method: wrap the item, place it in a small carton, then cushion that carton inside a larger one.
Seal and mark
Close the carton with BOPP tape across the centre seam and edges, and mark it "fragile" or "this side up" if it needs care. Tell us the item, size and quantity and we advise the bubble roll and carton to pair.
